What is it like? A barbaresco! It has the signature aromas of rose petal, black cherries, and a touch of vanilla. At the time of writing this (mid-2017) it is still a young wine with tannins still slightly edgy, and some of the tertiary flavours yet to be evolved. If you like younger expression of Nebbiolo, then it is the right age already. Do open at least 2 hours and even half a day ahead to let the tannins smooth out. It is worth the patience.

What is it like? Giacosa is an esteemed “Cru”, i.e. single vineyard or MGA, in the hills of Treiso. Compared to its sibling, the non-single-vineyard Barbaresco, it is smoother and has more tar in the nose, in addition to black cherries, rose petals and a touch of vanilla. Vintage 2016 is still very young for Barbaresco, 2015 more ready. Either one, open at least 2 hours and even a day ahead to let the tannins smooth out. It is worth the patience.
